Currently at my school there is a Mac run server for video production. To connect to it we use AFP (Appletalk Filing Protocol) and I've got a guest username and password for it. Thing is, I can connect easily on any Mac anywhere on campus via our intranet.

The problem: I cannot connect to this server on my PC. I'm running Windows XP Pro (SP3 updated). I tried FTP and it connects but then says I am disconnected by a remote host. So hey - that's no good. How exactly could I connect to this Apple server using the CMD shell on a PC? Is there some free software I could use?

I only want to be able to view material that is stored on this server. I don't necessarily NEED to transfer files back and forth. Any suggestions?

You may want to contact your schools IT departmen regarding this.

...I'm a part of their IT department. I asked the sysadmin and a general Mac guru and they didn't know of any software offhand. I was hoping that you guys might know of some CMD lines that would allow me to connect to a server through non-FTP methods.

Probably not worth your time...

First off, Windows can't recognize and understand the HFS file format...second, it doesn't know how to handle the AFS protocol. Best bet is to turn on windows file sharing of some sort and rig it that way.

Woo hoo! I tried a few work-arounds and none of them worked. Looks like I get to go out and buy new software. YEEE!!!

Thanks for your help!
