I've gotten a couple pop messages from Avira Antivir telling me that c:\WINDOWS\System32\csdl.ocx is a trojan. I've been unable to find any information using Google that tells me anything about this file. Anyone here familiar with csdl.ocx?

I would advise since you are getting these warnings from Avira that you follow the steps of PP's sticky HERE (http://forum.networktechs.com/showthread.php?t=49)
Post back here with the requested logs and I will take a look. I will also move this thread to our Spyware Central. So that is where you will find it.

Here are the logs requested. None of the scans came up with any infections or malicious software. While running them, though, Avira did alert me to a couple other files it has identified as trojans.
A0249459.ocx they say is the trojan TR/Dldr.Small.afxn and
atgpcext.dll is the trojan TR/Downloader.Gen
These are in addition to the first one I mentioned, csdl.ocx. I've quarantined the two .ocx files.

The only other issue I have been having is that the CPU usage shoots up to 100% a lot and if I am playing a video or DVD it will stop the video portion for a few seconds while the audio continues.

It's not allowing me to attach the HJT log to this post so I will post the in a following reply.

You obviously didn't read the MBA-M log. CouponPrinter.ocx most definitely is considered malware, your MBA-M scan found this and no action was taken by you.
Plus your MBA-M is WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY out of date. You obviously have never updated the program. You are running version 1.15...and the data base version is 844....current version is version 1.32 and the data base version is 1625. Even with your out of date version it DID find these 7 infected items and you chose not to remove them. Obviously there have to be a lot more than those.
Your java program is also way out of date. You are currently running update 6 version 3 and current one is update 6 version 11.
The computer IS infected and will not be clean until you do the updating of MBA-M to begin with and then run the full system scan and allow it to REMOVE EVERYTHING it finds, not ignore it. That coupon printing program is known malware.

You're right. I plead guilty to that one. I use the coupon printer to print their coupons from time to time. I hadn't realized it was a real baddy. I will get rid of it pronto. I also tried updating MBA-M from within the program, but it wouldn't connect. I will download the current one from the sticky you referred to me the other day and run it again.

Here is the current MBA-M log. Do you need me to rerun any of the other scans now that I've uninstalled the coupon malware? I have also updated Java.

Do another HiJackThis and please copy/paste the log here.

Thanks, Judy! While the MBA-M was running earlier I got another alert from Avira about A0249628.dll being the TR/Downloader.Gen Trojan. I quarantined it, along with the others that had come up.

You need to do some fixes with HJT but FIRST you have some old Symantec files running on the computer which need to be removed.
Do a file search for Symantec and remove all that are found. AFTER you have done that then run HJT and put check marks next to the following entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: NCO 2.0 IE BHO - {602ADB0E-4AFF-4217-8AA1-95DAC4DFA408} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Symantec Intrusion Prevention - {6D53EC84-6AAE-4787-AEEE-F4628F01010C} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: IeCaptureBho Object - {7c1ce531-09e9-4fc5-9803-1c2956615786} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA} - (no file)

(MBA-M should NOT be running at start up)
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware] C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe /install /silent
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [] C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/ser...000e6.0000026f

(there are numerous o18 entries like this one so I won't list them all....put a checkmark next to each and every one.)
O18 - Protocol: bw+0 - {7E0BFA8A-9D4E-455D-B118-CECA0A643308} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BWPlugProtocol-8876480.dll

O23 - Service: Symantec RemoteAssist - Symantec, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Support Controls\ssrc.exe

After you have placed the check marks click the Fix Checked button.
Exit HJT.
Reboot.
Run a new HJT scan and copy/paste that new log here.

Looks ok to me, how do you think things are?

Hard to say. CPU still seems to get bogged down a lot. We'll see how videos play. That's been the most frustrating thing. It's like dragging something with a rubber band. Every now and then it would get snagged and then suddenly jump forward to catch up with the audio. Almost like watching something in stop motion.

We've definitely cleaned a lot of stuff out so hopefully that should help. So were those files that Avira was warning me about related to the coupon malware?

Thank you for all your help.:bliss: I've always enjoyed this site, although I haven't been around much since the riddle thread ground to a halt. :)

I am not satisfied that everything is gone, especially with your excessive CPU "bog down"
I would like you to do this and you must follow all instructions EXACTLY.
Download ComboFix (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Click on the Save button and then when it asks you where to save it, make sure you save it directly to your Windows Desktop.
Once the download is complete you will see the Combofix on the desktop.

Close all open Windows including this one.
Close or disable all running Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix.
Doubleclick the combofix icon on the desktop to run the program.

Windows will issue a prompt asking whether you wish to run the program, click Run

You will then see a Disclaimer screen asking you to agree to the disclaimer. Press the number 1 key to accept the disclaimer.

Now just sit back and allow the program to run

Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.

When ComboFix has finished running, you will see a screen stating that it is preparing the log report.
This can take a while, so please be patient. If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.

When all is complete then please post back here with that log.

Update MBA-M. Run a Full System Scan with it and allow it to remove everything found. Shut down the computer, reboot.
Then run a new HJT scan
Post back here with both logs....we're getting there!

Thanks, Judy! Here are the logs. MBA-M didn't find or remove anything. Did ComboFix find or remove anything? I couldn't really figure out the log it generated.

Yes combofix removed several items. Do things seem better or not?

Maybe a little. I have AnVir task manager running and it has a CPU monitor in the task bar tray. So I will watch that. Maybe I have too many things running? I notice that a-squared sometimes uses a lot of CPU as does Firefox. It seems that iTunes also is loading on startup even though I thought I had stopped that. Is there any way to prevent this or do I just uninstall it and find another way to get music on my shuffle? It seems even though I have 2 GB of RAM I still can't run more than one program at a time, especially if it has any video to it.

OK, I've been trying to run a YouTube video and it is still not running smoothly. Maybe my computer is just getting old and tired. I know I ought to replace it, but being out of work at the moment that's probably not going to happen any time soon.

How much hard drive space do you have on there? Yes, you do have a huge number of programs running which are not necessary.

I've got 33.7 G, but only about 5.9 G free. I am working at cleaning that up and freeing up more space. I'll run Defraggler later and see if that helps any. I've gat a bunch of programs that I think were work related so I may uninstall those and see where it gets me as well.

Since I have not heard back from you in several days I have no idea what is going on with the computer. However, your infection removal process is not complete. You need to uninstall combofix since it is no longer needed. It shouldn't be re-used.
To uninstall do the following:

Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

Sorry, Judy. I was unable to access the site for a couple days. Kept getting an error message. I ran Defraggler and I have uninstalled Combofix. I also ran an Avira AntiVir scan and a-squared Anti-malware scan. Nothing showed up on the Avira scan and the a-squared scan is still running at the moment.

What would you like me to do next?

If all came up clean then I would say all is fine.

Thanks, Judy! My laptop seems to be running a bit better now.:bliss:

However, my wife seems to have picked up a virus on her Lenovo Thinkpad that is preventing us from getting past the screen to choose which mode to start in. No matter what we choose we get the message that there is a virus and it sends us right back to that screen. I will start that up in a different thread, though.
