Wadup guys,

I can't open my C drive from My Computer, it asks (Open With) which I find really weird.

This comes coincidentely after my Anti-Virus detects and blocks some stupid trojans. There was some adware too which I deleted.

What adware did you remove and HOW? What trojans were removed and HOW? We need the names and location of items removed.
Do the following:
Please Download ATF-Cleaner.exe by Atribune (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1)(Windows XP, 2K, 2003 & Vista ONLY) • You can put ATF-Cleaner on your Desktop for easy access.

RUN ATF-Cleaner.exe.-- Click on ATF-Cleaner to run it
-- Where it says Select Files To Delete, Check the Select All Option
-- Click Empty Selected > OK

If you use Firefox browser, do this also:

Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All from the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, click No at the prompt.


Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) (http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html) to your Desktop.

DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Reboot the computer.

Please Run the ESET Online Scanner (http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/) and attach the ScanLog with your post for assistance.

You will need to use Internet Explorer to to complete this scan.
You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
Be sure the option to Remove found threats is Un-checked at this time (we may have it clean what it finds at a later time), and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us

Run a new HJT scan and post back with the MBA-M log, the ESET Scanner log, the new HJT log and all information requested.

The trojans and adware was quarantined and then removed by McAfee Sec. Centre.

They were Generic!Artemis and PWS-Banker.dll located around C:\System Volume Information\_restore (and then some random number and letters which I can't copy as its not in notepad form).

Perhaps its worth stating that it says the Process (for like all the trojans) was in the Lavasoft Ad-Aware location under Program Files (Ad-Aware 2008 is one of my anti-adware programs).

Perhaps its worth stating that it says the Process (for like all the trojans) was in the Lavasoft Ad-Aware location under Program Files
If it was in the quarantine file then it was removed all ready and not a threat. If it was in the program itself then it was either a false positive OR the program possibly was not downloaded from the Lavasoft web site itself.

P2P file sharing is just a wonderful way to pass this stuff around.

Another one of them...VERY dangerous...PWS-Banker.dll
This PWS-Banker.dll trojan will install itself as a BHO (Browser Helper Object).
It will monitor access to internet banking websites and try to get information regarding username and passwords. If you have done online banking, purchasing with credit card, etc., I would certainly be keeping an eye on your accounts, change your passwords, etc.

Now this probably came onto the system as the result of another one of these trojans being on the system all ready.


Where are you located? I am asking because of some listings in your HJT log, first these:

Now there is still infection showing in your HJT log so I would like you to do the following:

Download ComboFix (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Click on the Save button and then when it asks you where to save it, make sure you save it directly to your Windows Desktop.
Once the download is complete you will see the Combofix on the desktop.



Close all open Windows including this one.
Close or disable all running Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix.
Doubleclick the combofix icon on the desktop to run the program.





Windows will issue a prompt asking whether you wish to run the program, click Run
You will then see a Disclaimer screen asking you to agree to the disclaimer. Press the number 1 key to accept the disclaimer.

Now just sit back and allow the program to run

Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.

When ComboFix has finished running, you will see a screen stating that it is preparing the log report.
This can take a while, so please be patient. If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.

When all is complete then please post back here with that log.

I'm really grateful for you helping me but when r we going to get to the stage of removing stuff (fix checking or w.e) from HJT?Fixing has been taking place with the programs we have run thus far. HJT is not necessarily a "fixer" program. It is basically a scanning program which gives us a snapshot of what may be going on with the computer. In the end there may be some final fixes which may be done simply with HJT, but that is not always the case. The other three programs I have asked you to run are actually removing infected files from the computer. With the run of each of these programs then we need to see a new HJT scan to see the changes which have taken place, they have thus far. With the running of combofix you can see the enormous log which is produced. I have to go through pretty much line by line to see what the scan found, what remains and then I can make a determination of what else needs to be done. Sometimes this is a very simple process, sometimes it is not. You just will have to give me the time to analyze each and every log so that I don't give the wrong instructions. I am trying to make it as simple and as speedy as possible, but if you just look through the first two logs you will see the computer has a lot of infected files. We have to get them all, if we don't then the infection can and will come back. I am working as fast as I can.

Yes, HOLY COW! run ESET again and check box for removal...sorry forgot that bit of instruction:o.
Also to be safe, since I completely forgot to have you run ESET again, Updating MBA-M and run one more scan with it too. If it finds anything then select all and Remove Selected. If something shows in either log, ESET or MBA-M post back here with those.

Then reboot, and to remove combofix do the following:


Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Honestly...go for it! I used to like AdAware a lot, but the newest versions, in my opinion anyway just are not near as good as the Old AdAwareSE. Plus the new one puts this service in there that runs all the time but does absolutely nothing unless you have the paid version.
I really like MBA-M. It finds much more than most programs, has updates sometimes several times a day. I use it to scan at least weekly and ALWAYS UPDATE before each scan. For regular weekly scans I use the Quick Scan. If something shows in the Quick Scan then do the Full System scan just to be safe.
I would also recommend that you download, install, update and enable SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html). Truly a MUST HAVE program, I wouldn't run my computer without it. It is FREE and it DOESN'T run in the back ground. It protects the computer against spyware, malware, hijackers, tracking cookies, and has a superior Restricted Sites portion that restricts dangerous and unwanted website. Just check for updates manually weekly, sometimes it has them, sometimes not, but if it has updates then install them, enable them and then just shut down the program.

Two items are from the previous scan, the Janis Joplin music the others were located in combofix quarantine and system restore.

But I can still remove ComboFix and the stuff will be gone right?

Yes remove combofix as instructed earlier in my post #12 In fact empty all quarantines plus do a reset of system restore (http://www.pchell.com/virus/systemrestore.shtml) to have new, clean restore points.

You turn it OFF first and wait a moment and then go back and turn it on.
System Restore works a lot like the Undo command in Microsoft Word. You can use System Restore to remove any system changes that were made since the last time you remember your computer working correctly. System Restore does not affect your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e–mail) so you won't lose changes made to these files.
System restore works automatically at certain times of the day or certain times of computer usage whenever there may be a change in key system files or certain files have been removed. The system backs up those files in case the change needs to be "undone" If you will look in those logs you posted you will see that some of the items noted in the last scans were located in D:\System Volume Information\_restore
The infected files were removed, but the computer doesn't know they are infected, just that some files were removed, so it makes a back up of the file in case you made a mistake and need to put them back. They will kept for awhile, depending on the size of your System Restore, possibly up to 90 days. As new files are written then the oldest are deleted. But because these were definitely infected files then you need to clear out system restore all together and begin with a restore point which is clean and free of infection.

Sorry Judy but McAfee detected and blocked another trojan. It appeared when I tried to open my F:\ drive when I wanted to transter files from my camera to the computer. I havn't even done anything on the internet lately...

Trojan was Generic PWS.ak. File was F:\6asmuyut.exe

What is F drive? An additional hard drive or a flash drive or what? Looking back through all your scans there were no scans done of "F" drive. When scans are done, especially with MBA-M then ALL drives must be selected when you tell it to do a Full System scan a box opens which allows you to put check marks in the drives you want scanned. You need to scan any drives which allow storage. Obviously you wouldn't scan a CD drive but anythng with storage on it. Know you have downloaded music at some time in the past because some of what was found was found in some Limewire files. You need to update MBA-M again and redo the Full System scan, this time allow it to scan all drives where there is storage.

Oh man it just doesn't want to go away. Could this be from some of the websites I visit?

McAfee detected 8 items when I did a full scan.

It found Adware-BHO.gen in the registry HKCR\Interface (and thn some digits)

The 7 other were Generic!Artemis in the D drive System Volume Information.

You should do the same steps we did before. Remember, you never came back after McAfee finding another trojan and I posted a question in post #20.
Do all the steps again, except for the moment combofix. Be sure to update the MBA-M program before you run it, and have it scan ALL drives including F
Have it remove everything found, save the log.
Reboot
Do the ESET scanner and remove everythng too.
Reboot
Then do a new HJT scan. Post back with all logs. Let's stick through to the end this time, ok?

I really don't see much of anything except a lot of unnecessary start ups.

You should search your computer for Symantec files and Norton files and fix that entry. Otherwise it doesn't look much different than your last log.
