They probly want to sell a new laptop.. =money; Call them back and ask to speak to a manager; don't tell them what you want other than customer service regarding a laptop; untill you are speaking to a customer service manager, then tell them that you need "restore/repair" software for your model laptop as it was offerred from the factory..

The restore CD's are consumable/wear items, they are supposed to be considered a repair part/product/service, it may cost you a little bit in shipping if you have your COA, it's a reciept of purchase... Saying the product is legit etc.. If your COA matches your laptop serial the replacement part shouldn't cost more than the shipping and actual cost of like a CD which is like what 40 cents? there may be several CD's? drivers/applications/OS..

Be specific when you ask for restore software replacement Discs, they have over 50 7xxx series and many many drivers available.

If they are not very helpfull, or suggest that you send it in for a repair = out of waranty service charge, plus shipping plus return shipping... You can try getting a replacement OS, an inexpensive flavor of xp such as home, media center etc.. or windows 2000, then download the drivers from HP..

HP has both windows xp and windows 2000 driver downloads for the 7xxx series laptops.
