View Full Version : resize avatars
frodo 08-29-2008, 04:13 PM hello cazomb tried to delete..
cauzomb 09-11-2008, 11:56 PM Did you get this figured out? incase you didn't, see if you have the default "paint" program installed, open up paint from the start menu, accessories, paint.exe :) from the paint tool menu, go to file, then select open, navigate to the folder where your file is saved in, select file types, .* or "all", find your image, usually a .jpg, then click open.
Once your image is loaded in the paint program editor, select Image, from the toolbar at the top of the paint application, then "stretch/skew" from the Image menu, in the stretch field, select the amount of "reduction" in percent values, if your image is 800x600, a value of 10 percent, for height and width, would give you 80x60, but the canvas area stays the same as the original at 800x600, or whatever size your original image was.. Use the corner crop marker at the edge of the canvas area, click the corner at the bottom right edge of the canvas, then drag the canvas area to the edge, or slightly over the edge of the resized image, let go of the mouse button after dragging, then go to the file menu and select save as, rename the file so you don't overwrite the original..
Paint only allows you to save as a bitmap, choose 24bit color bitmap to have the best image quality, this may cause the file size to excede some site's avatar file size limit.. If you want to avoid that issue, I'd recommend downloading a free or trial image editing tool that is compatible with windows 98, or buy a decent image editing app also compatible with 98, use one of the free online image resizing tools to get a smaller .jpg or ask one of your buddies to use their image editing software to resize it for you :)
frodo 09-16-2008, 08:32 PM i got that figured out, took 3 days! but i learned.
my next thing is this. i run windows, i have microsoft outlook,on my desktop.
i want to download a couple of files, from a site. to a disk. they are microsoft files
what do i have to do to upload them to my windows?
and how do i down load them, to disk. i have tried na aint happening
there site is ready for me to click
cauzomb 09-16-2008, 11:21 PM If it's just a single file, usually packed as a .zip, or .exe or .xls you'd right click on the file, then select "save target" then you choose where you want to download the file on your local machine?
Be certain that you scan the files for viruses with an up-to-date anti-virus application before attempting to open them..
cauzomb 09-16-2008, 11:35 PM If you are having trouble using the file, in windows "how to upload to my windows"
let me know what the file extension is, and I can tell you what application is needed to work with that file type.
frodo 09-17-2008, 05:31 AM it s files when i click on the link, files pop up.. lets say 8 files for [a]
9 files for [b] ,
how do i up load them all
i havent counted but i would say 300-400 files or more
frodo 10-05-2008, 05:31 PM the page cannot be displayed.
i checked the security section
that the error message directed me to do.
the settings it required are ssl2.0 ssl3.0 tls1.0 pct1.0
i have ssl 2.0 and ssl3.0 checked but not tls1.0
should i check that setting to make it go away?
cauzomb 10-05-2008, 09:25 PM I don't have any helpful suggestions regarding site certificates/ssl etc..
are you still having trouble opening/viewing a certain type of file? I need to know what the file extention is for the file/s that you are having trouble download/uploading. The extension is the three or four charactors at the end of the file name following the "."
Some examples of common file extensions are:
".zip"
".exe"
".rar"
".xls"
".html"
".xml" etc..
If your version of windows has "hide file extensions of known types" checked, you won't see the letters for most files on the computer's drive. You'll have to uncheck hide extensions of known file types, "from the windows control panel open up "folder options" click on the "view" tabe then scroll through the menu and find the option for "hide extensions of known file types" uncheck etc... either that or or right click on the file name and select "properties" in order to see the file's extension and other information; post the information about the files so we know what to help you with..
If the file is on a remote system, you need a direct link to the file that they have uploaded, or ftp access; to browse the remote systems shared directory.
cauzomb 10-05-2008, 09:40 PM This info should help you get copies of a bunch of files from one folder, into another folder, on the local machine. Assuming you have the following folder view options checked "show all files" "show system/hiddenfiles" and "hide extensions of known file types" unchecked,
Regardless of the file type; to get all the files from one directory/folder and any sub folders/files in that directory, open the directory where your files are, then go to the edit menu, choose "select all"
default windows hotkey (CTRL+A)
Then "copy"
default windows hotkey (CTRL+C)
So now where do you want to put them all?
Open up whatever you want to put them in, then go to the edit menu, or right click on an empty section inside the OPEN window of the folder/directory where you plan to download files to, then select "paste"
Default windows hotkey (CTRL+V)

cauzomb 10-08-2008, 01:03 AM I haven't viewed most of the site, other than a once over for approval. I'll have to check into some of the smoking recipe's now and then, for me and my brother. He's got a couple big-cheif smokers, but we plan on building a fire box out of an old wood burning pot belly stove, so we don't have to plug anything in. I can keep track of the parts used and take some pics of the contraption, it's going to be pretty basic, a smoker box elevated on a stand (probly one of the big-cheif smokers) next to the pot-belly stove, with a pipe going between for the smoke.
frodo 10-18-2008, 09:15 PM sounds like you have it pretty much figured out. i am going to build a frigerator smoker
so i can smoke a whole deer or hind quarters, a turkey etc.
i have a cell phone. takes pictures. i want to download to computer
i bought the usb cable, what i have is a very old dutch oven, i am trying to get confurmation as to the year built. need pictures
how to down load to computer? the phone is motorola/verizon
A41x/V32x it says a device driver is needed, is that a program, like a disc, when i installed my printer?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
did you install theromaters, fire box and meat box? 0-500 degrees 1 have a page that has the cook temps and times for all meats, on elec, charcoal or gas. give me a e-mail addresss...i'll send it and a little more, and fish
cauzomb 10-19-2008, 01:21 PM I dunno about the cell phone driver, I don't use them, however, from what I've read via google searches.. You need to install the phones USB driver, then plug in the usb cable to access the phones memory. Or get a usb memory card reader, that has a port, or adapter card that will accept the phones memory card..
If you have other memory card's, you might be better off with the adapter/reader. This way, you don't have to turn the phone on, or connect it to USB, just to download the pics. Also has a side benifit of not having your phone plugged into the computer, preventing data from your phone, such as address book, contacts lists etc from being vulnerable to computer security exploits. We haven't built the smoker thing yet, but I did plan on using an old bbq thermometer, and maybe a meat thermometer/probe, to spot check the internal temps etc. I'm generally here most of the time, so It's better to shoot me a PM as I don't like to share my email address.
frodo 10-19-2008, 04:15 PM you mean i can't plug this thing into the pc and get the pictures out of it?
i bought a wire that plugs into it and the phone. i don't think it has a card.
if it does, its well hidden
cauzomb 10-19-2008, 09:54 PM I've read that you need to install the phone driver on the computer prior to connecting the phone to the computer.
