View Full Version : Keyboard boot disk?

I have a laptop and recently the keyboard has stopped functioning, I know this because I couldn't get any response even during BIOS. As a temporary solution I bought a USB keyboard to use, which does respond in BIOS. The problem is I have an administrator password on my computer, but the keyboard is not recognized by windows, and is thus non-responsive.

Solution 1:
The CD rom is not currently working on this computer either (I know I know, it's on its last leg) so I was wondering if it was possible to create a USB bootable drive that can somehow load the drivers (or whatever it needs, it's a very standard keyboard) prior to the password request so that I could log in

Solution 2:
If I could somehow load directly to a command prompt perhaps I could add the drivers manually, or disable my password so that the plug and play could detect and set the keyboard up whenever I logged in.

So, what do you guys think? Any insights? Thanks in advance.

My first question would be...
Do you have Adminstrator right for this laptop?
I would imagine that it is against forum rules to help you bypass any password.

Without trying to bypass the password, or trying to come up with a password bypassing installation boot disk etc... Figure out how to install keyboard drivers... Maybe in safe mode, maybe the laptop needs to have it's keyboard support enabled on the USB port VIA the BIOS; if you can access that without a keyboard????

What else have you tried to do?

XP has default keboard drivers for USB, just getting it to recognize that there's a usb keyboard rather than the standard keyboard.. not as straight forward as just plugging in the usb keyboard and turning it back on...

Your best bet is to have the laptop repaired.

As S Templar has mentioned.. be warned.. It's against the forum rules to discus circumventing "passwords" security, or copy-protection... Users will have their threads closed, banned etc..
