I bought...a DELL...SERVER....yup.

I bought a retail computer, and didn't build it...and it wasn't a laptop.

I was browsing dealhack deals, and saw this one (http://www.dealhack.com/archives/2008/05/save_397_poweredge_dual_core_s.html). It was just too good of a deal to pass up.

At the time the retail of the server I got was $796. I got it for $399 + tax & shipping. Shipped it was $444.13.

Specs:

Opteron 1212 dual core - 2.0GHz (2x 1MB L2 cache)
1GB (1 stick) 800Mhz DDR2 RAM
2x 160GB Sata HDD
16x Sata DVD/CD-ROM combo drive.
Case, psu, etc.

I priced out doing it myself, but it would've cost me another $100 at least to do it myself.

As it stands, I should get it between the 26th and 28th. It is slated to ship next Wednesday. Which means it will probably beat my RMA mobo back to me.

So yup...I actually bought a PC...

Now I have a Counter-Strike Source dedicated server, Trackmania Nations Forever dedicated server, Ventrilo dedicated server, and file/print server :)

they have a similar deal going...2x250GB drives and @GB of RAM for $499. Damn shame they aren't the 2 socket versions, I'd jump on that :D

Yeah I saw that. That one is the "DEAL" that I got just the day before. *shrugs* It's still too good of a deal to pass up :)

These days it really doesn't make sense to build your own PC unless you want specific components or a high-end system which then, could save you quite a bit, otherwise, it really is not worth the time or the effort imo.

Yeah, depending on what you are doing it can be cheaper to buy retail. In this case it was...it should be here today. I will be sure to get pics :)
