Anyone playing NEED FOR SPEED? Which one?
My favorite is porsche unleashed but currently playing NfSU2, beat the game once already and started a new profile to get different cars. Currently I have an rx8 with unique carbon wing, unique turbo, unique graphics and all stage 2 mods and some other stuff. Two more URL races, 12 more of my choice and I get a new sponsor, another free car and level 3 engine/turbo etc.. Anybody know whats up with the unique turbo? I remember it boosting to MAX 30psi in my other profile, I'll have to load that up today and check for sure but does anyone know if there something I need to get before doing the unique turbo so it will boost to 30psi? Right now it just has a little spike in torque around 4k

ok yeah just finished my second sponsor requirements, saved then restarted my old 100 percent save game to check on that turbo boost thing. I guess I have replaced the unique turbo with a level 3 turbo on my old car n that's why it goes to 30psi compared to my unique turbo on the new game save.. BLAH memory sucks.

I still have needforspeed 1 and 2 but the discs got scratched :( favorite drive was the mountain track with the ford gt or mclaren, lot's of speed after the straight by the beach before the sharp right hander hard breaking, then hard gas up the hill through the s's past the cottage and over the hill, then I could pickup some serious speed on the way down the hill, break for the right hander leading into a short straight before that raised part of the road that leads to the 90 degree right hander then left into the tunnel s's then finishline. If you didn't break just right after going over the raised part of the road you'd cary too much speed to make the 90 without scraping the wall so I'd drift into the 90 instead of breaking. I havn't played that game in at least 5 years, still remember the track fairly well but couldn't remember this other game's turbo variations :P

Yeah, I've been mainly playing on my PC. I finally have one that can run these games on it. I want to get Underground 2....but I'm not uninstalling MW for any other ones...

you could try changing the registry entry and file name of your previous install from speed.exe to speed2.exe to see if that will let you install the new version, after that change the registry and file name back, as long as the new version doesn't use the same registry key it shouldn't have any problems with the file target after switching back..

actually there's no need to change the installed file name on the hard drive, just change the registry entry speed.exe to speed2.exe, load your other title's installation, after that go back to speed2.exe in the registry and rename it to speed.exe, all is well.

I'm fairly certain it's the one in my attached reg22.jpg you have to hide the file name/registry key from the alternate versions setup/autorun scanreg utility so that it will not find speed.exe in the registry, if it does you will see the "PLAY" option for the application or if runnign setup.exe it will just stop running after finding speed.exe in the registry.

Change the name of the KEY and or SUB KEY and or key data for speed.exe in both pictures, one has a bunch of charactors after it, and the other is a folder, Rename them both and rename the actual registry key data file pointer speed.exe just to cover your bases because the autorun/setup.exe thing will find speed.exe if it's in the registry.. For diagnostic purposes, you could try changing one at a time to find the one that does the trick, also since you are editing the registry, might as well create a backup.

Will do. I already made a backup. I made sure to do that after my recent issues...I'll try that right now and let you know the results. Don't go anywhere...

If you have AIM, Yahoo, MSN, or ICQ PM me with the addy, it would be a little faster if I have issues.

Also, just add a 2 after speed, that way you don't change anything except adding a 2, then come back and remove just the 2.

I was able to install and run undergroud after renaming that key...but now, I can't run most wanted and can't rename the speed2.exe back to speed.exe as it already exsists....so when I put in the Most Wanted CD it allows me the option to play, but it opens underground.

Just the installer/autorun throws a fit after finding speed.exe in the registry. Each version and it's launcher has it's own installed directory listed in the registry, along with unique registry data for the exe, dll's system file directories etc.. No need to worry about having issues luanching/changing settings/playing the game/saving etc. They both may use the same registry key "SPEED.EXE" but you can have two in the registry, the file locations and internal data will be unique for each application and no conflicts will occur untill you try to intall another NFS title that uses the same speed.exe registry key search, you will have to rename two of them..

so you may have to do some more isolation if you want to continue to use the autorun application when you insert the disc for most wanted, skip the play option, use the exe on the computers hard drive..

I am going to try running from the .exe file right now and see how it goes...will keep you updated.

ok, so taking into account the differences between speed.exe and speed2.exe, copy the values from speed2.exe and paste them into speed.exe, then you can either delete or leave speed2 there, make a backup of the registry before changing this. For some reason stupid ms won't let you have two key's named the same

Of course not. But I was able to get it (Most Wanted) to run by using my shortcut. And Underground will still work with it's autorun. I don't have any problem using the shortcut for either of them.

I'm still curious what will happen if you copied all the speed2.exe values for MW into speed.exe that was installed with underground. If the autorun from one disc or the other doesn't differentiate between versions it might load both of them at the same time LOL... You could probly delete both of the speed.exe values and use just your shortcuts, then next game you have to install will actually let you install.

this gives me an idea for a version launcher, replace speed.exe play target with a launcher application that you can tell what versions are installed and where their launcher exe is, and to run it and have a neat interface with graphics n junk

I can't figure out how to move registry keys....as soon as I do, I'll move them and see what happens.

Still working on it. I always start with the neon....and then I don't take a step up for a while....with NFS I don't use any cheats...I play them straight by the book.

I start with the 240 in nfsu2 got to a point where it was pretty fast then the rx8 was available and so I used my free sponsor car to pickup the rx8, furst free sponsor was a tiberon? or celica gt? anyway I traded it for the mitsubishi 3000GT so now I have rx8 just got 10starts all graphics, unique wing all level 3 mods etc, rx7 third generation with level 2 mods and no graphics and working on making the 3000GT to all level 3 performance mods and mild carbon fiber stuff, I'm gonna put a wide body kit on the rx8 and maybe finish off the 240??? depends on how much money I can accumulate with the rx8/outruns/cash pickups.. I knew I would be needing as much cash as possible so I sat back and did the math on the sponsors, then picked the ones that give the highest dollar amount, or second highest with my prefered events as their 3 required races.... the top speed on the 10* rx8 is alot of fun.

Yes...I'm doing very well. I like this game even more on PC than I did on PS2. IMHO the graphics are a lot better, it's easier to control the vehicle...it's just different, but not different enough to make it a completely different game.

It helps when your PC is faster than the game console :)

yeah...I think it is. And the FUNNY thing is, my PC runs normally with 57 processes. I was running T-bird, Gaim, and Windows LIVE messenger (with 1 convo) in the background last night when I was playing and there wasn't any noticeable difference in speed at all...

Today, Mad Money's Jim Cramer said he's a fan of need for speed while talking about ATI's aquisition by AMD and had something to say about how the graphics cards chips are soo much faster than the chips in the pc's and something something. I think it would be a big step forward if AMD and ATI got together to make a Gaming PC from scratch without trying to stick to the "standards" focus on performance and data bandwidth between componenst and storage devices..

Here's a pic of my 10 star skyline :) with 20k in the bank left to upgrade my other cars. So thats, 10star rx8, 10star skyline, full level 3 mods 3000gt, full level 3 mods 240, unique wing on the rx8, unique turbo on the rx8 that when upgraded to level 3, kept the unique spike in torque around the 3-4k rpm that showed when I got the unique turbo. Unique susi on the skyline, carbon hood, wing, airscoop's and bodykit, two tone powerdercoating on the rims, exhaust tip, brakes, and engine accents.

I think mine was like 18 bucks buy in now but shipping was high. It was last on my list cause I already have it for the ps2.

I've got the ps2 hooked up through the vivo port on my new ati card n did a couple video caps using some trial video capture/conversion software. Been recording outruns on the freeway using the pit maneuver :) and how not to do the outruns in beacon hills.

Basically, it's impossible to outrun the computer in beacon hills unless they crash or you can get away by a last second turn or direction change. The computer cheats alot, if you turn around and don't get going above a certain speed before you pass them in the opposite direction it will give them the lead so it's best to get them to crash.

I hope I can unlock the widebody kit's via outruns after completing the game. I've been doing a bunch of outruns n after a few I go check the shop's to see if the kits are unlocked but haven't got it yet.

Hmmm...I really need to find it. I've already thought about pre-ordering Carbon...I mean it's only $40....and that's how much NFSU2 is going to be. I'd like to take some videos of my racing...but I don't have a program to do it, and I'm not payingh $50-$100 for one...

I just started playing it offline last night with the saitek p880 game pad "dual analog rumble responce" lol, it's about the same as the ps2 dual shock except where the ps2 has R1/2 L1/2 the saitek has R1/L1.

Well, after getting really frustrated with it last night, I could only get the local games to work and everytime I tried to play online, as soon as it would start loading the race it would crash NFS, I gave up and went to bed....Now you DEFINITELY owe me some racing...

Niiiice...I think I figured out why I was getting booted online....I was using a junkman car, and trying to race in a "No NoS" race...dur.....yeah...that was quite interesting...I found that out after I tried running it in safemode...so now I am trying to get all of my graphics readjusted...

lol, I was following some guides for windows xp of things to disable to increase security before going online, since I had to get windows xp for the newer games etc, this is the first time i've been exposed to it's computer management since my novel class in 2000, so I started messing with the computer security snap in and setting policy inherent system config, inherent system security policy etc.. Then found out that I can't go online to do updates due to the config, then found out I can't undo the config! time to start over....

i play NFS:MW. i stopped bceause my controller broke. While i was playing i kept it hoping i would get a better pc with better gfx later and a new controller. I finally got my controller fixed so i can play again :S, but no new pc with gfx :(. Man its a good game, best racing game ive played (other than F-Zero X on N64 :P)

Man...this last race is REALLY hard...I've been trying it for almost 2 hours now...it's just a canyon run...and I won't turn the game off, because if I do, I have to do the 3 races previous to it. SO...it's sitting at home on...minimized...waiting for me to finish it....man do I love having a fast computer that can do that.

lol! sounds like a difficult game, all the url races in nfsu2 were like extra easy even on higher difficulty settings, once you got infront of the other guys you could just walk away from them because they weren't all crashing into you n side swiping you=no traction to accellorate.

The first several months after getting Ravenshield and playing it until 4am, I thought I was hearing people talk like the tango in the game. Heck even in my sleep I would hear the gun fires and jump of the bed sometimes...don't worry I got professional help already! :)

Same here, it's like listening to the smoke alarm over n over n over for several hours... get low get low get low get low... wham bam bambalam black betty bambalam.... get low... beep beep beep beepm rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr braaaaaaaaaaan nanannaan whoosh beep beeep... It's actually fun if you screw around or play online, but not all the time you know.. I played nfsu2 everyday for 4-6 hours a day, sometimes longer, inbetween races I'd do some stretches, water the plants, take some photo's etc. I didn't just zone out you know, but there were a couple weekends where I got to hook the ps2 up to the 32" n just played all night.. If only I could re-paint my real car that often!!

w00t!!! I BEAT IT FINALLY!!!! It took me long enough...I left my game on for 2.5 days trying to beat the race so I didn't have to do the 3 races preceding it. I wound up passing him on the first Canyon run of the race, and stayed ahead of him. That's hard to do on that particular course.

NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 TIP;
Be sure to do your special events, pickup your uniques and do your magazine cover shots in each stage prior to compleating the last race on or not on the map, weather it is URL, CIRCUIT, DRIFT, STREETX, DRAG, or whatever, if it's the last race on or off the map, once that final race is completed, all your special events disapear when you move up to the next stage!

NFS U2 is too easy for me :) No matter if it's URL, CIRCUIT, DRIFT, STREETX, DRAG, no need for tips.
