Just thought I'd get this going here since I just talked to the gas delivery truck driver at the station.. He said tank up now cause it's gonna be $4.00 a gallon in the morning..

Cheapest is $2.87 in SE Georgia. But I haven't been out of the house for a couple days so I'll update this later today :)

I'm not willing to accept a cut in wage
Safe bet, neither are executives/stockholders of oil companies

My wife, due to health issues rarely gets out therefore I do the shopping
She is like in a time warp about the cost of day-to-day items
It really startles her when she does get out and see what things cost

Every year I get my statement from the Social Security Administration informing me of my projected (in the event the SSA should still exist, which I believe to be unlikely) earnings upon retirement
I sincerely doubt that would afford 2 people the luxury of food twice daily when the current levels of inflation are factored in over the period of time between now and retirement

I'm looking at 2 viable options
1.) keep working

2.) purchase enough land to start an old-folks-commune so we can grow food and share prescription medications and try to squeeze by somehow

Hang on, it's not going to get any better in the foreseeable future

.....reminds me of the time this old codger come into the hardware store where I was working......fellow wanted to purchase a broom and balked at the $7.99 price tag on a decent model on display.
"The last time I bought a broom it was only $1.75!"
The owner of the store stated, "That is odd, I can't think of anything else that has gone up in the last 17 years?"

and, so goes the cycle of life

He might be pulling you leg because I seriously doubt the driver would know what the price is going to be at the gas station. Especially when they are all different.
Down in So Cal, it was below $3.00 for a short period a little while back but now, it is probably around $3.30 for the cheapest. I generally prefer super unleaded which runs at least $3.50 to $3.70 :(

People complain about gas prices and inflation yet still vote for u know who....baffles me.

$2.759 here.
Its summer time, its going to go up, it does every year.
There is more at play in fuel prices than supply and demand.
Weak dollar, commodity speculations, insane emmision requirements, etc.

Right now it seems to be averaging around $2.86 for regular throughout the state of Indiana, with the lowest at $2.79 for regular and here, in this town with 35,000 population, where I live our prices are always higher, have no idea why but they are and we have at least one station where the price for a gallon of regular tonight is $2.97!

Besides Bush had to get the oil cheap for them to pay back for their contributions during his election campaign...thanks to the war, he provided the opportunity for some of the wepoans/ammo to be used so now the arms dealers can sell more to the army and make more $$$ again....it is a vicious cycle but you guys already knew that...

You are talking about something else with the huge difference between what you pay and what I pay ... It's called cost of living  The same house in Northern California would cost a third of the price here in SE Georgia. Pay rate is also higher there. So we all have just as much right to complain as you do :p

TTT^ I noticed the local gas prices are going up around here, even for winter; someone said prices of oil were 90+ a barrel; used to be $60.. Are you prepared to pay 4 dollars a gallon?

Gizmokid2005
11-13-2007, 07:38 PM
Gas prices ARE going up. This morning oil was at $95/barrel and gas was 3.24/gal. Gas is slated to go up at least another $.20 in the next week or two and they are talkinb $100/barrel by end of the month...

We don't have a choice about paying $4/gallon...that's the kicker.

Mathster
11-13-2007, 08:02 PM
Gasoline is B$0.60 per liter
Diesel is B$0.34 per liter

current exchange rate is US$1.00 = B$1.45

That works out to
Gasoline is $1.57/gallon
Diesel is $.89/gallon

gas here is around 1.09/litre last I checked. Thats 4.1/galon for you US folks. :P

And to think, the UK has it worse then us.

What I don't understand is we have plenty of oil in our lands, it would be economicaly positive for us to just make our own refineries, and even totally break out of opec and just keep it local and make up our own prices.

Or scratch that, stop allowing the oil industry to patent every single alternative energy source, so others can use them and start making non pollution economical machines. (cars mostly, but also stuff like lawnmowers, generators, etc)

Right now in our city, gasoline ranges from $3.14-$3.18 a gallon depending on location of the station (at a locally owned chain) to $3.24 (Marathon) for regular. For whatever reason our small town...35,000 people...always has gasoline prices at least 10 cents a gallon higher than most of the state...we don't know why.
30 miles away for the same local chain...price is $3.12 a gallon.

60 miles north in Ft. Wayne prices range from $3.06 to $3.18.
60 miles to the south in Indianapolis prices range from $3.02 to $3.18 a gallon.

You do realize that there is a huge misconception amongst people that the higher the octane of the gas, the better/faster it is? Cars are designed to use a certain grade (octane) for optimum consumption and for most cars it is the regular unleaded (87), putting a higher octane pretty much means you are pissing away your $$, simple as that.
Motorcycles on the other hand, could actually benefit from higher octane as their engines make use of the higher octane and using lower octane gas could actually effect their performance but not so with cars built in the last decade or so...

Oh, I knew you were aware, never in my mind I had a doubt!

Well, anyhow, to your question, the price difference leads believe to think that higher the rating the better the gas...well, it may be more usable for engines that have higher baseline compression.. if you are using low rating gas that is prone to pre-ignition, or ping/detonation, the computer will retard the timing and instead of the expanding gasses pushing the piston they get wasted as heat out the exhaust, which would decrease the fuel economy by a certain amount for the time that the computer is acting on the timing... going up a long hill with 87 in a car that says use 91+ could possibly cause the exhaust gasses temperature to skyrocket and damage the valve seats, or overheat the head and blow a head gasket..

Prices here in town yesterday were $3.34 at noon and by 2 P.M. the price for regular had gone to $3.49! Biggest jump at one time we have seen in ages, usually it is just a few cents change, if it changes.
They slipped this in on us, normally around here Tuesday is the day the prices go up, sometime after 3 P.M.
Lowest price around here right now is some place "out in the boonies", have no idea where it is, but the price there is $3.36

Tell you what...this will show how old I am...when I was 17, in 1963, and had my own car...which was OLD...a 1951 Plymouth!...anyway, gas was 25 cents a gallon. I could get 8 people (people weren't "chubby" back then either), including myself into that car, we would all chip in a quarter, buy 8 gallons of gas and drive around all weekend! You are payin $4.72/gal....gas just went up to $4.15 again today...

It's the Goldman Sachs predictions....a conflict of interest and they forecasted that oil would be at $150/bbl by July 4. Of course they predicted that, they have a solid vested interest in it...Record-breaking day again today...

As much as I love my V8 Silverado and had spent a few $$ to sup it up (exhaust kit/ cold air intake, chip, etc.), I am seriously thinking about trading it in for a more economical vehicle.
The only thing that balances the truck is my bike that I get to ride a few days a week despite temperatures around 100 degrees.

Gas prices are nuts, future not looking good! :ohno:

The only reason that oil is as high as it is...is because of Goldman & Sach. That's it. They have investments in the oil futures, yet the market is hinged on their predictions.

Gas was going down until they predicted oil at $150/bbl by July 4th. Oil shot up $10.50/bll just that one day....sorry, but there is a HUGE conflict of interest there....

Maybe I'll hold off buying gas for the bike, I'm still going to try to convert my car to alternative fuels though, not just for "renewability, but for performance advantages as well, I can run my compression at 9.5, use ethenal and still bounce the vacuum/pressure guage needle off 1.2 bar over atmosphere.. Trouble with this is that I've heard storries of people breaking rods/pistons before the knock computer even detects a knock, just from the increased combustion pressure alone...

All of June and July I watched prices jump up durring the weekend, anywhere from 3 5 7 or 10 cents per gallon and go back down again durring the week...

Now they are trying to grab as much of the road tripper's mula before the end of summer = less driving = less gas sold per day, and according to the oil price forcasters, there's no increase in the price of crude, forcasted through mid feb 2010. Apparently, they are not basing their recent price increase on what it will cost them to replace what they sell....

Saw the gas prices jump this weekend an average of 5-15 cents per gallon... Must be that "we need to charge extra durring the holliday" thing.

just start paying for your gas with IOUs

What ever fuel prices do, Some will see us as having it easy, some will see us as being ripped off.

A couple years ago, I saw fuel prices from $.10/Liter where everyone rode scooters and could barely afford to go to work, up to $2/Liter and the only place people walked was to the bar for a $12 - .33L beer....
